Picking the Right Racer in Wacky Races: The Board Game Deluxe

One of the best elements of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Wacky Races from the 1960s was the fact that you never knew who was going to win the race each episode. Everyone had their favorite characters, but there was no one hero that would always come out on top. It added a real sense of fun as you’d cheer on the racers. The only thing that was ever certain was that Dick Dastardly was going to come up with an ill-fated plan to cheat, and he’d always come up short.

When CMON began designing a Wacky Races game, one of the most important elements was including the different characters and giving them abilities that reflected how they acted in the show. The goal was to make players feel as if they were behind the wheel of their favorite character’s car. In an earlier article, we examined the care put in to the highly detailed pre-painted miniatures for Wacky Races: The Board Game Deluxe Edition. Today, we’re taking a look at the characters themselves.

When choosing a racer in Wacky Races: The Board Game Deluxe Edition, players are going to have to consider a few things. Of course, their childhood favorite is going to be tempting to choose, but will that character reflect the way they want to race? Each of the different characters has their own reliable vehicle, with four different special abilities that can be used at the right moment in a race. Players are going to not only have to choose their car based on the way they want to play, but also on the competition out there.
